At ¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ·, we understand that our emotions drive our attention, memory and learning. Thus, we adopt a growth mindset to the development of emotional intelligence skills. We teach them, model them and encourage our students to practice them and pursue them as lifelong learning skills.
¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ· prides itself on the role the staff and community play in the shaping of our girls. We are committed to ensuring that every student is supported, nurtured, valued and known and develop the dispositions of optimism, resilience, grit and compassion for others. We want them to grow into strong, self-confident young women, with a generosity of spirit, capable of acting justly and with integrity.
Pastoral care at ¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ· is a shared responsibility. Each staff member is highly experienced and committed to positively nurturing our students to uphold and develop their unique personal strengths. Whilst all staff share the responsibility for the pastoral care of our girls, each student is assigned a Homeroom teacher who assumes general responsibility on a daily basis. They are also allocated a Homeroom group with other students from their Year Level. A Year Level Leader, who works in partnership with the Homeroom teacher, Student Wellbeing Leader and families to support each students’ holistic development, oversees each year level.
Pastoral Care Program
We are committed to proactive pastoral care strategies that will enable our students to develop a robust sense of self and encourage our students to ‘have a go,’ be a productive member of a team and show strong leadership. Every fortnight, an extended Pastoral Lesson is held, where an evidence-based, well-resourced, age and stage appropriate program is delivered. Our Pastoral Care program actively promotes our Brigidine values of Strength and Kindliness as well as our Kildare Ministries values of courage, hospitality, hope, compassion, justice and wonder.
Restorative Practices
Student behaviour management at ¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ· is centred on our Kildare Ministries core values. Our teachers are committed to developing caring and respectful relationships with their students and our Brigidine motto of ‘Strength and Kindliness’ reminds our community members to be both assertive and gentle in their mutually respectful interactions.
¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ· uses the approach known as Restorative Practices to respond to and manage conflict and challenging behaviours and to foster personal accountability and socially responsible relationships between people. Restorative practices is based on the principles of affirmation, respect and reciprocal responsibility. It promotes student education by enabling students to learn from their mistakes, grow in self-discipline, accept responsibility for their actions, recognise the impact of their actions on others and reconcile and resolve conflict.
